Meet Our Director

Mr. Kirk Douglas is a passionate conductor and dedicated educator who is currently celebrating his seventeenth year directing the choirs at Boulder Creek High School. His leadership has cultivated a thriving and inclusive choral community, featuring two award-winning show choirs, two remarkable concert choirs, and introductory ensembles that inspire students to explore their musical talents.
Mr. Douglas received his education degree from Ottawa University and completed his performance degree at California State University, Northridge. As a performer, he has showcased his talent as both a soloist and ensemble member across North America and Europe. A standout experience in 2012 saw him performing in Italy as a featured opera singer while also lending his expertise as an assistant to the music director at the prestigious Lorenzo Malfatti Academia Vocale di Lucca.
His outstanding contributions to music education have been celebrated with several accolades, including the OM Hartsell "Excellence in Teaching Music" Award from the Arizona Music Educators Association. Additionally, he was named Deer Valley Teacher of the Year in 2017. That same year, his Broadway Bound choir made a dazzling appearance at the AMEA Convention, further highlighting their immense talent. In 2019, Boulder Creek's Honor Choir was honored to perform at the Arizona Choral Educators event.
Beyond Boulder Creek, Mr. Douglas actively engages with the broader music community, having conducted district honor choirs and served as director for the 2024 Arizona All-State Middle School Mixed Honor Choir. He has also led the Town Choir of the Phoenix Boys Choir and previously held the position of president on the Arizona Choral Educators Board.
Among his most cherished achievements is conducting his honor choir and performing an aria at the renowned Carnegie Hall in 2017, a testament to his commitment to excellence in music education.
